Silver Hares News February 14, 2026

What follows about Saturday’s ski is only rumor, and here-say even speculation. You see yours truly was absent for the first time. The absence was not planned as a secret get away with Cyndy for Valentines day but thrust upon us when my world turned upside down in the wee dark hours of the morning.

It was a simple turn around in bed that threw everything topsy turvy, Vertigo in its mightiest form out of nowhere. First thought might be having a stroke so away to the ER. Good news no stroke after very extensive Neuro exam and CT results.

A big shoutout to the leader group yesterday, the leader Hares, frankly as expected, performed as if I wasn’t needed.  From all the emails and even video I received things went very well. The group was organized by Maura at the leader pre ski briefing and everyone pitched in doing their part.  Put a smile on my facing even as I was sitting in the ER silently a bit freaked out.

Now bout the Valentine’s Day Ski, from reports 40-50 Hares gathered for the ski and about 15 or so for lunch.  Silver Hares guest leader, Greg Munby driving a couple hours all the way from Penticton area to come play with us. That “much needed beautiful fresh powder” made for “not fast Skiing”. It sure looked like everybody had fun and enjoyed the camaraderie even without the speed we like to enjoy.  Amanda’s group even looked to do a little bit extra exercise with a snow push up contest .

Our next special activity is fast approaching, the Wine Tasting Dinner. If you plan to join let me know now please, we will open this up to the community at large this week . It would suck to have Silver Hares miss out on that want to attend but didn’t let me know in time.

Silver Hares Wine Dinner (and a bit of chocolate) February 26th.

We’ve sold out each of the last 2 years so please let me know sooner than later if you want to save yourselves a place. The theme for the wine night is International wines. We’ll have wines from France, Spain, New Zealand and Australia.

Michel Auclair , hosting the wine presentations (one of the two Silver Hare Sommeliers, the other is Barb) will give away 2 bottles of wine courtesy of Kat and the Black Pine. Awarding the wine will be based on a quiz Michel will give near the end of the evening so pay attention to his beginning of the evening wine presentation. Gonna be interesting to see after generous pours of wine tasting whom will be sharp enough to answer the quiz questions.

The red wines will be bold. They should go well with what Chocolate John makes during the chocolate making demonstration. That chocolate might be part of the tasting experience.

MADELEINE WILKIE UPDATE

Madeleine sent another  “Thank You” to the Hares in a little video as she is getting ready to go to the world Championships in Norway.

NUMBER ONE BEST EVER ATTENDED SILVER HARES SPECIAL ACTIVITY TO DATE BINGO

WOW, almost 100 (98) players!

It was an exciting event with music, singing, dancing (Jen and Franziska leading) laughter, people in themed costume, silly hats, garlands, noise makers and more. Wonderful camaraderie, what a night! We went an hour past the scheduled finish time cause everyone had such fun, thank you all!

Caresse, (Bingo Babe) and her sister did a super job running the BINGO, Cyndy was everywhere encouraging and lending a hand assisted by Catherine Friesen at check in. The Black Pine staff took very good care of us. The bartender and one of the servers even joined the spontaneous dancing so clearly they enjoyed our group.

The prizes were beyond what most people expected and in most cases more value than the price of admission.

Music Bingo is the best!!  Check it this YMCA videoBingo 2026
