Silver Hares News February 28, 2026

After strong winds the prior 3 days with debris blown trails of pine cones, pine needles, small twigs and pieces of Spanish Moss (Old Man Beard I think some of you guys call it) the winds died down for the Hares and very importantly the winds had died down for, “the grooming team”. We were greeted with pristine clean trails, both the Classic tracks and the Skate pad free of “stuff” with a thin layer of fresh snow on top.

It makes me smile to see what you, the Silver Hares, have built in just three short seasons. We didn’t set out with a growth plan or a fundraising target. We didn’t launch a campaign. We simply showed up to ski, laugh, and spend time together. And somehow, in doing just that, strangers became friends and a ski group became a community. We are achieving our purpose to create community which by definition is:  A feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests and goals.

Kudos to you all and by all I mean over 300 of you. We will never see all 300+ show up at one time because we are a “drop in” program and also of course a number of Silver Hares live outside our area and ski with us when on the mountain for vacation. When I say outside the area I mean we have skiers from all over Canada even some from Australia, New Zealand and from various states in the US.

WINE TASTING DINNER

A most successful and fun night thanks to Silver Hares Sommelier Michel Auclair and his wonderful presentation, John Pavelich (aka Chocolate John) making his silky smooth rich chocolates for us right there in the restaurant, and the Black Pine staff led by manager Kat.

We were 43 Silver Hares though the laughter and conversations made it sound like100. The food was great and the wine, excellent!

WRAP UP DINNER  A few special awards, a few birthdays to celebrate and volunteer leader recognition.

Thursday March 19th, at the Black Pine 5:30 till we leave.

We would love to have as many of you join us as possible. There will still be 2 more Saturdays to ski together after the dinner but this date is really the last chance to get together as a group for many Hares (and to be seen without hats), please let me know if you plan to attend. If we get enough of you attending we may be able to get the restaurant closed to the public for our gathering. We have a little over 50 signed up now and from experience it will take another 20-30 for Kat to consider closing the doors to the public. It sure would be nice to have our own private space

PS

Everyone will be responsible for their own tab.

S2S Ski Marathon April 4th & 5th and Stussi Night Sprints April 2nd

The power of volunteering, here is short statement the impact a single volunteer had on a skier during the long ski day.

“On a particularly lonely part of the course, there was a volunteer. They had no clue that they were so important to me, feeling like I could make it just a bit farther, and push a bit harder.
